3 Easy to Make Pasta Sauces in 10 Minutes or Less

Pasta is a lifesaver in the kitchen. All you have to do is add a good sauce over noodles. But the question is…what kind of sauce? Not every great pasta sauce needs to be simmered for hours over the stovetop. Here are three easy to make pasta sauces, with big flavors, that take only 10 minutes.

1. Marinara

Ingredients: crushed tomatoes, garlic, fresh basil, and bay leaf

How to Make Marinara:

  • Mince 3 cloves of garlic
  • Fry in a tablespoon of olive oil in a sauce pot
  • Chiffonade (shred or finely cut) the basil
  • Add crushed tomatoes, fresh basil and bay leaf (leave the bay leaf whole so you can fish it out later)
  • Simmer sauce for 5 minutes, then taste
  • Add salt and pepper to taste (optional)
  • Remove bay leaf before serving
  • Soak up every last drop with New York BakeryⓇ Bake & Break™ Pull Apart Garlic Loaf

2. Aglio e Olio (Garlic and Oil)

Ingredients: lemon, Parmesan cheese, olive oil, and garlic

How to Make Aglio e Olio:

  • Juice a lemon
  • Mince 3 cloves of garlic
  • Fry in 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Add lemon juice and remove from heat
  • Toss pasta with the garlic and lemon mixture (add more oil if the sauce doesn’t coat all the noodles)
  • Serve into bowls and grate Parmesan with a microplane or cheese grater right over the pasta
  • Add minced parsley or black pepper (optional)
  • Serve with New York BakeryⓇ Bread Sticks with Real Garlic for an extra pop of garlic

3. Alfredo

Ingredients: butter, cream, Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes

How to Make Alfredo:

  • Grate 2 cups of Parmesan
  • Heat 1 cup of cream and 1 stick of butter in a saucepan over medium heat—don’t let it boil
  • Once the butter melts, add cheese and remove from heat
  • Stir until cheese melts
  • Add salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste
  • If sauce is too thick, try thinning it with a little pasta water (an age-old trick in Italian kitchens)
  • Present with New York BakeryⓇ Garlic Knots for an unexpected twist—and big flavors

The beauty of these three sauces lies in their simplicity and their versatility. Add canned tuna or salmon to the sauce for extra protein. Leftover steamed veggies are also a great mix-in, as is plain pulled chicken or turkey.
