Creamy Cinnamon Apple Pie


The classic apple pie recipe gets a makeover with a kick of Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon Yogurt Fruit Dip, golden delicious apples and ginger snap cookie crumbs.

For the filling, place apple slices in a microwave safe bowl. Add the sugar, lemon juice, flour, rum and golden raisins and mix well. Microwave the apple mixture for 3 minutes. Remove and stir. Microwave another 3 minutes. The apples should be very soft and the liquid should be thick. If not, microwave another 1 to 2 minutes. Cool mixture completely. (To do this quickly, spread mixture into a thin layer on a tray, cover and refrigerate.)

For the crust, preheat the oven to 350°F.  Butter an 8” pie plate. Combine the cookie crumbs, sugar and butter in a mixing bowl. Transfer the mixture to the pie plate. Press the crumbs into the bottom and sides of the pie plate. Place pie plate on middle rack of oven and bake 8 to 10 minutes. Cool completely.

To assemble pie, fill cooled piecrust with apple filling and spread Marzetti Otria® Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon Yogurt Fruit Dip over apple filling. Refrigerate 1 hour and serve. Serves 8.

A graham cracker piecrust may be substituted for the ginger snap cookie crust.
